DESIRA BACKS CHARITY CYCLE RIDE
The cyclist who has organised the bike ride is Ian Howe - a Nissan customer and a local driving instructor for Thorpe Driving School.
Desira will be providing a Nissan Navara as the support vehicle which Ian's wife Jackie will drive alongside the cyclists.
The bike ride will start in Land's End, Cornwall on Saturday 19th April, cycling 996 miles to John O'Groats in Scotland, finishing on Sunday 4th May. They will be cycling South to North with the hope that the South Westerly winds will be kinder to them. Ian has wanted to do the bike ride for some time and was determined to finish it before his 40th birthday. Now at 51 he's running a bit behind, so is raring to go! They will be stopping off to rest in youth hostels throughout the journey.
Ian chose the MS Society since a member of his family has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He also feels that the East Anglia's Children's Hospices is an incredibly worthy local charity as it supports families throughout their experience of caring for children with life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses. Ian has two children, Paul and Erika, who are both grown and well but he knows he is fortunate and would like to sponsor a charity which helps families that need support.
Ian's brother, David is accompanying him on the charity bike ride. A keen fisherman, he chose to cancel a fishing trip to support the charities and Ian's son Paul will also join them.
