Desira Nissan is proud to support an inspiring team from the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital as they embark on the N&N Hospitals Charity Spineathlon 2026, a demanding 180-mile walk, kayak and cycle multi-day challenge aimed at transforming care for children and young people living with scoliosis.
As part of our commitment to supporting local communities and charitable initiatives, Desira Nissan has provided a Nissan Qashqai support vehicle to accompany the team throughout their six-day journey across Norfolk.
The N&N’s Spinal Surgery team has completed an incredible six-day, 180-mile challenge across Norfolk, helping to bring the N&N Hospitals Charity’s Spinal Appeal one step closer to its goal of funding a pioneering EOS imaging system for children and young people living with scoliosis.
Colleagues, patients, families and supporters gathered at the N&N today to welcome the team home following Spineathlon 2026 – a gruelling challenge involving kayaking, walking and cycling across the county to raise awareness and vital funds for the appeal.
The challenge comes as the Spinal Appeal reaches an important milestone, with £660,000 already raised through generous donations and gifts in wills towards the £841,000 needed to bring the first EOS imaging system in the East of England to the N&N.
Over six days, the team battled rain, wind and sunshine as they made their way from Norwich to Gorleston by kayak, before walking from Great Yarmouth to Sea Palling and continuing onwards to Cromer, Holkham and Hunstanton. The final leg saw the team cycle from The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn back to the N&N in Norwich.
The challenge brought together colleagues, patients, families and supporters, highlighting the incredible community effort behind the Spinal Appeal and helping raise much-needed funds towards an EOS imaging system that could make a significant difference to children and young people receiving scoliosis care.
Day 1 (4th September) - Kayak from Norwich to Yarmouth
Day 2 (5th September)– Walk from Great Yarmouth to Sea Palling
Day 3 (6th September)– Walk from Sea Palling to Cromer Hospital
Day 4 (7th September) – Walk from Cromer Hospital to Holkham via coastal path
Day 5 (8th September) – Walk from Holkham Beach to Hunstanton (via Hunstanton Golf Club) via coastal path
Day 6 (9th September) – Cycle from King's Lynn Hospital to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital
The N&N Hospitals Charity is urgently appealing for donations to help fund a low-dose X ray imaging system that will transform care for children and young people with scoliosis and other complex conditions at the N&N.
The charity aims to raise £841,500 to purchase the state-of-the-art EOSedge low dose imaging system, which significantly reduces radiation exposure while providing high quality 3D diagnostic images.
Rachel Backshall, Charity Director, said: “This technology has the power to change lives.
“For our youngest and most vulnerable patients, those who often face years of repeated X rays, the new system means safer imaging, clearer diagnosis and greater peace of mind for families.
“We urgently need the community’s support to make this possible. Every donation, large or small, will bring us closer to giving children the safer care they deserve.”
