Tyre Safety Month - October 2016!
We know the importance of having your car running smoothly throughout the year, but a common part of your car health that is missed are the tyres - this is more important than ever as we come into winter!
More than 18 million UK drivers are estimated to be on the road with illegal tyres! A recent survey found that 40% of motorists do not know what the legal limit is and 13% believe tyre maintenance is the responsibility of the garage and not the owner.
So, we've put together some tips so that you can check your tyres are legal & also what to do if they're not.
Why should you check your tyres?
You're not insured when driving on illegal tyres. If you are involved in an accident and it turns out your have been driving around on tyres with a tread depth lower than 1.6mm you could find yourself spending a lot of money on repairs and fines.
Your cars performance can also be affected by worn tyres - low tread depths reduce the effectiveness of braking, steering and acceleration, all of which are vital in staying safe.
